The United Kingdom Association of Cancer Registries (UKACR) fully supports the need for better and more-accessible information for cancer patients about how data relating to their illness is used. It is also important to us that patients are reassured about the steps cancer registries take to protect the information they are entrusted with.
To achieve these two aims, the UKACR has been working with patient groups to ensure appropriate information is available to cancer patients at the time of diagnosis. We have developed an information leaflet for patients that was approved by the Plain English Campaign and the Centre for Health Information Quality (CHIQ). A list of frequently asked questions was also compiled to accompany the leaflet, with extensive input from several patient groups. The leaflet was piloted in two cancer networks before it was launched.
