Cancers that develop in heterotopic grafts should be coded to the recipient. This is because the cancer is thought to develop because the exposure to the carcinogen occurred in the new environment. It would also enable the unusual nature of such a tumour to be traced. For example, where cancer developed in an ileal patch of the bladder it should be coded to bladder as the site. Similarly should the tumour occur in an ileal conduit, it should be coded to the ureter.
