The ENCR recommendations are available as Appendix Po/99/02. At the C&CG meeting these were discussed. Po/99/02.1 Which tumours to register

Po/99/02.2 The recording of "WHO grade (malignancy scale)" The C&CG foresaw problems with the implementation of this recommendation. In the first place, the use of the term "grade" to describe the behaviour of a tumour is potentially confusing, given that "grade" traditionally is defined as referring to the morphological differentiation of a tumour. The Group recommends that the ENCR be asked to use a different term.
Secondly, while some registries have a field for "grade" from which information is submitted to ONS, it is important to realise that ONS expects information on morphological differentiation and not on tumour behaviour in that field. The C&CG therefore recommends that registries should be careful not to do that. Registries are also advised not to use the sixth digit of the ICD-O morphology code for describing the behaviour of CNS tumours.

It was agreed that the grade table in ICD-O3, which has been expanded to include other morphology codes should be implemented by all registries. For some of the tumours, in WHO-4, there is a new proposed code. It was agreed that this code should not be used until ICD-04 is published. The table has been added without the WHO-4 codes.
